Emile Brunel died in Boiceville, NY, on a cold and rainy day, November 10, 1944. Whatever success or failures he had in his life he thought he had ensured his immortality in Ulster County history. Now 55 years later, with him forgotten, artists and photographers are trying to see that he is never forgotten. His home in Boiceville, his statues he made, his photography he did, and his art will be opened in the near future for the world to see.
He was the founder of the New York Institute of Photography, along with being the founder and starter of Universal Studio's. His movie "The Hand of God" is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The height of his popularity and noted portrait photographer he had over 30 studios in the New York area. He perfected one-hour photography processing seventy years before it became the staple of every photo studio. In addition to being an artist he was also a real estate broker.
